The Renewable Energy Development Handbook

Taking Solar and Wind Projects from Site Control to Commercial Operation: Land, Permits, Interconnection, PPAs and Financing.

These are the companion files of the book. One workbook rebuilds Cedar Hollow Solar, the fictional 150 MWac / 195 MWdc project the book follows from the first land option in 2022 to commercial operation in 2028: its capital cost, its energy yield and exceedance levels, market prices, a 20-year utility PPA, a 15-year virtual PPA and the merchant case, the production tax credit and the ITC alternative, the foreign entity test, debt and tax equity, a wind alternative and a battery option, and the value of the project at each development milestone. A second file holds the diligence checklists of Appendix B in editable form. No sign-up, no email is asked for, nothing is locked. Amounts are in US dollars; blue type is an input, black type is a formula.

The files

Three numbers to reproduce first

The offtakeThe right to build Cedar Hollow is worth $33.4 million with the utility PPA, $15.2 million with the corporate virtual PPA and minus $38.2 million fully merchant, against a $27.0 million premium paid at notice to proceed
The creditThe production tax credit carries $73.0 million of that value: with the ITC instead the project is worth $6.6 million, and with no credit minus $39.6 million
The milestonesThe project is worth $0.02 million at site control and $35.1 million at notice to proceed; the biggest step, $11.8 million, comes with the PPA and the start of construction in 2026

The files are provided as they are, without warranty of any kind. The model is illustrative: Cedar Hollow Solar, Hartwell Ridge Wind, Calder Plains Renewables, Ashgrove Clean Power Fund, Norland Electric Cooperative, Quillon Data Systems, Ironbridge Constructors, Larkspur Solar Manufacturing and Marlow County are fictional, and the figures are the book's assumptions, not market statistics or forecasts. Nothing here is investment, legal, tax, accounting or engineering advice.
